Slow-mo Windsurfing
Ken and Nev Wave Jumping
This was shot with my new Sony DSC-HX9V compact camera. This is an amaizing bit of gear for its size, weight and convenience. It has a 16x optical zoom, optical image stabalisation and shoots in full HD 1080 x 50p resolution. It was blowing a gale on the day (20+ knots) so it was a bit difficult to keep the camera steady. Still, not bad for my first go.
The video is really crisp, and you can see a huge difference between this and the wide shots where were captured on my Panasonic DMC-FT2 at the same time - I used a two camera setup on a monopod.
The only criticism I would make of this camera is that the zoom barrel is a bit loose - only marginally so - and in the strong gusts the wind was actually causing this barrel to shake when it was fully extended. You see this as an artefact in the video - caused by the rolling MOS shutter - sometimes the image appear to flutter. In future I will need to do something to counteract this in strong winds. Maybe but standing next to someone or something so as to act as a wind break.
Nev's Mystery Object
Nev found this mystery object walking along the beach and wondered if anyone knew what it might be. It looks to be made of bone.
Along the straight edge it looks like it is broken off a larger piece. The top side is textured almost like coral.
After session beer
Enjoying a cold one after another great day out on the water.

Great camera work Henry! Slow mo the way to go for the jumps, Nev was just hanging there.

Yeah, its pretty neat. I am looking forward to trying it out on some of the kitesurfers. I caught a few jumps in the video, but was mostly focused on Ken and Nev. The image stability is pretty amazing for such a long zoom lens.

The kitesurfer who flashes accross the top at 0:53 min looks awesome. Red and white board, Ray or Caleb perhaps? He just drops in and flashes accross the screen, leaves you thinking, where did he come from? Where did he go? Great stuff.
